More Texans are cruising more than ever thanks to discount deals and ships cruising out of Galveston. More are likely to join the trend as Houston is added to the ever growing list of cruise ports.

Norwegian Cruise Lines’ (NCL) is moving the Norwegian Sea to Houston, Texas this November after going into dry-dock this past January where she underwent a multi-million dollar retrofit. She will launch her Texaribbean adventures from Houston beginning Saturday, November 8th, 2003 to the Exotic Western Caribbean, calling at Cozumel, Mexico, Roatan, Honduras, Belize City, Belize, and Cancun, Mexico.

From then on, the Norwegian Sea will be based in Houston year round sailing a 7-day, four-port exotic Western Caribbean itinerary with prices starting at an amazing $399 per person. NCL is the only major cruise line sailing from Houston rather than Galveston, and the only cruise line offering a year-round ship.

John Krieger, travel expert and owner of the No. 1 cruise only agency in Texas says, 'NCL's return to the Port of Houston after the debacle of the Norwegian Star in 1997 is yet another indicator of the strength and growth of the Texas drive cruise market.'

However he adds, 'Questions remain about how well the 1987 built Norwegian Sea will fare against the newer mega ships from Royal Caribbean and Carnival porting in Galveston also offering seven night West Caribbean itineraries.'

But there’s no doubt that NCL has a large number of loyal past passengers in Texas, so smart shoppers better book now for the best prices and availability between now and 2004. Krieger says, 'Holiday space availability still looks good and you can avoid the hassles and expense of holiday air travel.'
